There's something about the 4th of July that naturally ignites BBQs. I feel like it's been so long since I experienced a good American holiday, so naturally, I woke up, my internal BBQ ignited and ready for Eastern European BBQ. I then found a recipe for a shrimp pilaf from Argentina and realized I wasn't good at being American. So I threw some Spanish saffron, paprika, lime juice, and olive oil in a bowl of shrimp, artichoke hearts, red and green peppers, brussel sprouts, and onions and let it marinade while I lit the Q. Walgreens has this amazing thing I decided the Norwegians invented since that is the only other place I saw it, which is a one time use BBQ for $4. Coals and all. I lit that up, safe not to ensue another Chicago fire on my balcony. Loading up my makeshift skewers from chopsticks, I threw on a lime, and went to town, mint and lime spritzer in hand. Happy 4th of July. Now to go to a White Sox game to eat a hot dog and try to be a better American.
