Early morning sun, Moscow

One of my favorite things to do in cities I have never been to before is stay out all night.  It is so fascinating to me to see how a city works overnight.  I feel like there is no better way to get to know a place than that.  You see people head home for bed, those who stay out late, and then watch the city as it wakes up as those who stay out all night pass by those just starting their day.  There's a certain magic to it.

These images were taken in Moscow one night where I stayed out all night.  The interesting thing about here is since it's so far north, with summer solstice approaching when these images were taken, the nights were so short that it was confusing.  Night starts late, as the sun sets around 11pm, leaving you feeling so awake and as if the night is just starting by 1am.  Going into a club at 3:30am, the sun was already starting to rise and leaving at nearly 6am, it looked as if the sun had already been up for a while, making for a short and warm summer night.
