The NATO protests have taken a fair toll on my work at the restaurant I'm serving at. Many are complaining about all the extra cops that are getting paid to sit on park benches, waiting for a riot to break out, and the road closures getting in the way of daily commute. But somehow all of us who are loosing money in other ways are forgotten about. Like the sense that no one has gone out to eat downtown in over a week, leaving the restaurant industry dying in the beginning of the prime summer season. It also doesn't help that I work in the same building as Obama's reelection headquarters, hence the recent addition of bullet-proof windows and protestors standing outside. Somehow the restaurant is still open and we continue to make sure food goes out hot despite the building getting evacuated and terrorists attempts being foiled, planned for the building. Finally the owners got the hint that they were not making money anytime soon this weekend and gave us some days off. Sunday was beach day and Monday we went to the zoo. Nothing like pretending downtown isn't exploding by looking at some cute animals, right? Plus the zoo is free, which helps with all of our current financial situation. But seriously, if a riot breaks out, someone please let me know so I can run to the grocery store and loot some groceries? Thanks.
