A scene from the Oakland LDS Temple.
Rediscovered photo from just outside of Olvera Street, Los Angeles, California.
A few weeks back, I got to go to Galco's second summer tasting session. Shot glass ready, we lined up for pours of varieties from elderberry to cucumber, grape to vanilla cream sodas. Live music and spectators dancing, with a rainbow layered cake laced with Pop Rocks in one hand, camera in the other, I watched a beautiful Sunday afternoon unfold.

Instead of Flying, No. 3
I started two mini-series recently. Nothing big, nothing terribly serious. The first one I simply called "Instead of Flying", in which I made some images of the things I did instead of boarding my flight home to Chicago. There are three in the series. They don't really tie in visually, but thematically they do the job. There were more things I did, and some at different flights. But, nonetheless, they were all worth that red eye flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia and my early morning flight back to Chicago just to get home. I think that's called Karma.
Instead of Flying, No. 1
Over the last week, I spent some time in Los Angeles helping run a program called Girl Scouts Destinations with Alpine Training Services (ATS). I was with the "Foodie" destination, in which twelve girls from years 15-18 from all over the United States came to L.A. just to learn about food. Many had an interest in food, some already attending culinary arts programs, others just fascinated by it. It was fun to explore different foods and try new things (like Yak and all the seafood I'm scared of) as well as learn from one another in addition to the instructors. I drove 15 passenger vans through rush hour, taught food photography courses, and kicked it with these great girls for a week. We wrote Yelp reviews, food blog entries, and even participated in an Iron Chef competition. It was an amazing week full of delicious things and great times. Don't worry, the next million blog entries will be from L.A. So, enjoy!
